Down Head Classic Wenge Deluxe Chess Set

A beautiful little chess set that is compact yet very high quality and extremely well presented. The chess pieces are classic Staunton, weighted and felted. A basic design crafted to exacting standards from fine polished hardwoods. The light pieces are made from clean grained boxwood and the black ones are 'ebonised' which gives a very convincing ebony look at a fraction of the cost of genuine ebony chessmen. The ebonising process involves a black chemical dye substance that soaks deep into the wood allowing it to be polished as if it were real ebony.  

The chessmen sit proudly upon our modern and contemporary wenge and maple chess board. A very highly crafted veneer board that has been made to exacting standards of perfection from carefully selected veneers of hardwood. The board has a flawless satin finish that becomes the perfect backdrop to the polished hardwood chessmen. At just 14 inches across the set may seem small, but there have been no compromises in terms of detail, design and quality.
