The Madrid series chessmen are presented here in graded Sheesham and Boxwood. Sheesham, also known as golden rosewood is a rich brown hardwood found in India. It has a lovely deep grain pattern and is highly attractive. It is less expensive than sandalwood and ebony which is why are are able to offer these exquisite chessmen at such an affordable price. The actual quality of the sheesham wood is very high, is dense, hard and can be polished up to a professional level.
These chessmen come with a four inch king, four queens, are triple weighted and expertly felted on their bases. Each piece has been crafted to an expert standard and uniformity across the set is as good as it gets. We have sourced these pieces from the worlds finest producer of chessmen and this becomes evident when you hold them in your hands and compare them with other similarly priced chess pieces. These fine chessmen will sit perfectly on a walnut or sheesham chess board, we would recommend a board that is 23 inches in size, or thereabouts.
