Old English Elite Ebonised Staunton Chess Pieces 3.5 Inches

The Old English Elite Staunton chessmen in ebonised boxwood are by far one the finest examples of Staunton chessmen available. The design is classic vintage Staunton with every element taking it's cue from the Victorian era sets that have become so legendary. What is most striking is how the shanks are so perfectly curved and pinched in the middle, this combined with the wide bases results in the amazing proportion that these pieces exhibit. There is nothing out of scale about this design, each element fits perfectly within the set. The pieces are of course weighted in their bases and exhibit superb balance. The uniformity of the chessmen is outstanding, you can line up all four knights together and it's virtually impossible to see any difference between them, to achieve this only one person is used to make all the knights, as a result these chessmen are produced in very limited numbers, in batches of just five sets at a time.  

  These examples have been crafted from clean grained boxwood of the highest quality, the black pieces have been subject to a chemical dying process that gives the impression that they are genuine ebony. With real ebony being so scarce and expensive the 'ebonised' versions of this beautiful set represent superb value for money. The lack of real ebony shouldn't force one to disregard the amazing quality and finish of this set. They are finished off to perfection with expert polishing and a uniform, even finish. These fine chessmen will sit perfectly upon a 20 inch board.
