Old English Elite Red Sandalwood Staunton Chessmen 3.5 Inches

The Old English Elite Staunton chessmen in sandalwood are by far one the finest examples of Staunton chessmen available. The design is classic vintage Staunton with every element taking it's cue from the Victorian era sets that have become so legendary. What is most striking is how the shanks are so perfectly curved and nicely pinched in the centre, this combined with the broad bases results in the amazing proportion that these pieces exhibit. There is nothing out of proportion about this design, each element fits perfectly within the set. The pieces are of course weighted in their bases and exhibit superb balance. The uniformity of the chessmen is outstanding, you can line up all four knights together and it's virtually impossible to see any difference between them, to achieve this only one knight carver is used to make all the knights, as a result these chessmen are produced in very limited numbers, in batches of just five sets at a time.

These fine chess pieces have been crafted from clean grained boxwood and red sandalwood. The sandalwood used for the dark chessmen has been sourced for it's rich close grains and is a fine example of this very rare and valuable wood. Sandalwood is becoming increasingly expensive and it's forestation is now severely limited which makes these fine chessmen an excellent investment opportunity. These fine sets are commissioned in very small numbers and each one comes certified as a genuine product of The Regency Chess Company. The standard of finishing on the chessmen is outstanding, each piece has had amazing attention to detail in relation to it's polishing and final finishing. The base size of these pieces make them ideal for any of our 20 inch chess boards, they will sit very elegantly upon any of our lacquered boards and are equally at home on our satin finished veneer boards.
