Sherlock Holmes Mahogany Chess Set

This Sherlock Holmes Chess Set comprises of an expertly crafted set of chess pieces by Studio Anne Carlton of Yorkshire and a beautiful made mahogany birch inlaid chess board.

Each of the pieces is expertly created using crushed stone; this is a lovely material used in many of SAC’s themed chess sets and works incredibly well. The beautifully made pieces are perfectly weighted and depict each of the key characters from the story of the fictional detective who appeared in four novels and over 50 short stories - first published in 1887 and written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The white pieces represent the good characters from the story; the King is Sherlock himself, the Queen is his landlady, Mrs. Hudson, two Bishops represent Dr Watson and Inspector Lestrade is represented as two Knights. The black chess pieces represent the dark or evil characters from Sir Author Conan Doyle’s novels; including Sherlock’s nemesis Professor Moriarty as a king and Irene Adler as the queen. All of the pieces in this Sherlock are beautifully painted by hanh and are supplied in a compartmentalised box which is branded.

The chess set is paired with a mahogany and birch wood veneered chess board, which is made in Europe. This carries many advantages over boards made from a single piece of wood, they are much more rebust in that they are less prone to the effects of environmental humidity etc.
