The expert craftsmen at Berkeley Chess have sculpted these fantastic Second Edition Isle Of Lewis Chessmen; a refined version of the iconic and mysterious originals.
The origins of the famous Lewis Chessmen have been lost to the sands of time, but historians believe that they originated in Norway. Lying for hundreds of years in a stone chest, the pieces were finally unearthed in 1831 on the Isle Of Lewis coastline.
They are now generally considered to be conventional chess pieces, although their original purpose was the subject of much speculation by experts. The originals are on display between the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh and The British Museum in London.
The enigmatic beauty of the original sculptures has been reinterpreted into these fabulous pieces, which are uniquely coloured with a metallic crushed stone resin. A truly unusual design which is sure to take centre stage in any room.
