The urn-shaped rook of the Opus Series Chessmen is a favourite here at Regency Chess, and was the first thing that caught our eye in this remarkable set of sheesham chess pieces.
The second thing, of course, was the corseted midriffs that uniform every Opus chess piece. This particular characteristic is created through a hand-turning technique used by our partner craftsman.
Once they have created the basic shape of these chess pieces the craftsmen then move on to further carving the stunning sheesham wood they are made of.
The knight has a regal head with distinctive, front facing ears and an arched neck. There is no other like it in the Regency Chess Collection.
On the front line is yet another example of the uniqueness of this Opus Chess Set, featuring as it does the Prussian pawns with their pointed tops.
The 3.75 inch king, as well, has a distinctive feature, boasting a beautifully made cross that stands higher than any of its subjects.
Despite the height of its king, this set of Opus Chessmen will sit comfortably on a board 17 inches (45 cm) or larger.
