Luxury Competition Staunton Chess pieces, crafted from solid boxwood and ebonised boxwood. The attention to detail is staggering. The knights feature distinctive, aggressive features with a well defined mane and flared nostrils. Beautifully weighted and balanced, the pieces are presented in a hand made solid sheesham chess piece case which is lined inside with green flock. Polished with natural waxes, the case is a work of art on its own!

The chess board is moderately large at 21 inches square. Made from sustainable mahogany and maple in Europe, it provides the perfect platform to display these wonderful chessmen. Classic Staunton from start to finish, this chess set includes everything one needs and represents outstanding value for money considering the level of finish and beauty.

We have sourced the various parts for this chess set from two key chess suppliers. Firstly the board, this comes from the worlds largest, and arguably the best, producer of chess boards in Spain, Rechapados Ferrer. We opted for the Spanish version over and above the cheaper Polish one to ensure that this set maintains the highest precision and quality. The pieces and box come from one of our favourite producers of high quality chessmen. A classic Staunton set, nicely weighted and very solid. They are the perfect complement for the mahogany chess board.

Please note that the box included in this lovely set is now supplied with the new and improved hidden magnetic closing mechanism and not with the brass clasps as seen. It is also supplied without the divider.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.

"Excellent chess set. I was surprised by the huge footprint of the board, 54cm sides mean 76cm (30 inches) diameter which is quite hefty. The board was flawless with excellent satin finish, no exotic woods but very nice quality. The pieces are heavy and beautiful, especially the knights and kings have heft to them. Finishing of the pieces is good, but at this price point there are some tool marks and roughness visible when looking closely. Details are lovely for the price point and the set is a superb value, beautiful without being too much of an art piece to prevent playing."
