Product Description

  • Classic Staunton design.
  • Handcrafted from solid rosewood.
  • 4 inch (102 mm) king.
  • Weighted for perfect balance.
  • Bases covered with high quality billiard cloth.
  • Presented with a 23.6 inch (60 cm) deluxe wenge board.
A simply perfect chess piece and board combination! The Sandringham Series Staunton Chessmen are a flawless take on a classic design with some of the most precise lines we've seen on a modern Staunton chess set. The pieces are triple weighted for a perfect feel in the hand and feature a four inch king. Carving consistency between each knight is peerless - there are few better examples of luxury chessmen out there. The rosewood is richly hued and adds a distinct air of exclusivity to this beautiful set.

The board is a stunning 21.6 inch deluxe wenge and maple veneer, produced in Spain by world renowned craftsmen, with a sophisticated and clean aesthetic.

If you are looking for tonal perfection and unsurpassed luxury, then this chess set should be right at the top of your shopping list.

This luxury set includes 4 queens

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.

Product Reviews

"Chess piece quality great. My only criticism is that the height of the pieces is slightly too low to comply with FIDE tournament regulations. The width of the pawn base is also slightly too wide. However, this set matched the regulations the closest compared to any other wooden set I could find on the internet. Although I wouldn't be using a wooden set in tournaments I still like to play with it at home and having proper sized pieces makes it easier to get used to tournament boards. Visually also easier to picture patterns with proper sized pieces. I contacted the store and some other stores and apparently the standard nowadays is to have wooden chess pieces be larger in size for display purposes. (Source: Standards of Chess Equipment and tournament venue for FIDE Tournaments, sections 2.2 and 3.2) The board was not perfect but good for the price. The light edging around the squares was slightly off in three of its corners."

"Excellent set, for me its not cheap but you get what you pay for. Pieces are the perfect size and the weight is spot on, feels really substancial when playing. Set gives an air of class and quality, very happy. One minor point is the optional feet, don't bother. Feels a bit cheeky to have to pay 80p extra when spending a lot on a chess set and they are just little disks of felt. Will find a nicer solution fit for such a quality chess set."
