With the king standing at 3.25 inches (83 mm), these Staunton chessmen are the tallest in our Down Head Knight range. Crafted from selected boxwood, processed through an ebonisation process this set of chess pieces offers remarkable quality and therefore good value for the price. Each piece is constructed from one section of wood, subsequently them strong and robust. This process ensures that every chess piece in this set will last for generations rather than just a few years.

Despite their modest price, all of the Down Head Knight range is crafted and finished to an excellent standard. Each piece has been hand polished to a medium gloss finish, creating an excellent but not overstated shine. The black pieces are ebonised: a process that creates the look of real ebony and further strengthens and preserves the wood.

The 15.75 inch wooden chess board from Spain, is the the perfect setting for these pieces. Created with inlaid veneered squares, this is a classic design of chess board without notation. This is a good quality solid chess board, created by the prestigious Rechapados Ferrer of Spain, and will provide years of use if not decades and to protect your table, there are soft green protectors on the base. The squares are 40mm wide which is just over 1.5 inches. Perfect for these larger Down Head Knight chess men.

A quality fabric chess bag in a rich deep luxurious blue colour. The top of the bag has metal eyelets and a pull cord which pulls tight closing in the chess pieces securely. Can accommodate chess pieces up to 3 3/4 inches in height.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
