THE CHESS MEN
With tattoos and clad in leather, the Rock side are presented as typical hard rock musicians. The King and Queen are animatedly performing their number into hand held mikes whilst the bishops, knights and pawns are all strumming guitars. The knight is notably enthusiastic in his stance whilst the castle adeptly beats the rhythm on the drums.

Serenely playing their instruments and dressed in their white suits complete with red dicky bow ties, the stylish Jazz band look every inch the part. They are lead by a guitar playing king and a voluptuous queen on vocals. The traditional jazz instrument, the saxophone, is displayed by the bishop whilst the Knight plucks his double bass. The castle beats on the drums whilst the pawns are clarinet players. HISTORY
Starting in the late 19th century and spanning over a century, Jazz originated from African Americans in New Orleans. It emerged as a music genre that was a form of independent styles all brought together by a common link. Jazz comprises such a spectrum of music that it is difficult to define, however with the passing of time, variations of this music have emerged to be enjoyed by different generations.

Rock and Roll (as it was first known) originated in the 1950s in the USA and developed into a spectrum of different styles a decade later. Rock, heavily influence by rhythm and blues and country music, also absorbed a number of other genres including electric blue, folk, mass and classical.

Please note that as these pieces are hand painted, there may be some inconsistencies in the level of detail and colour and therefore your pieces may be very slightly different from the images shown. Any inconsistencies however are minimal.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
