The first thing that caught our eye in this exceptional set of sheesham chess men, was the urn-shaped rook. Another particular characteristic of the Opus Series Chessmen, created through a hand turning technique, is the corseted midriffs that adorns every piece.

From the basic shape of these chess pieces the craftsmen move on to more creative and ornate carving in the stunning sheesham (golden rosewood) they are made of.

The 3.75 inch king boasts a beautifully made distinctive cross that stands higher than any of its subjects. In turn, the knight too is very distinctive. With his arched neck and front facing ears, there is no other knight like this in our collection.

With the additional feature of the Prussian prawns and their pointed tops, this design is now a very firm favourite here at Regency Chess so we have matched it with an equally beautiful walnut and maple board from Spain. This real wood veneered board is the perfect battle field for these pieces and when not in play, they can be stored safely in a handcrafted sheesham chess piece case.

Please note that when the chessmen are placed in the box it is normal and intentional for them to lay down on top of each other. They are NOT intended to stand up inside the box.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.
