Victoria Series Ebonised Boxwood Chessmen 3.75 Inches

"As a child I was taught chess on a beautiful wooden board made by my father with an equally beautiful set of traditional wooden Staunton chess pieces. The board and pieces (along with their original 1960s cardboard box) are very much still in regular use. My abiding memory will always be the weight of those pieces and the feel as they glided across the board. No other set I’ve played with even came close. This set does. I can only echo the other reviews at the time of writing. My 15 year old selected these for his 15th birthday and, frankly, they are a thing of beauty and will hopefully last him a lifetime. The only weird thing is that they came with 2 extra queens (much appreciated but not mentioned on the site at all) and the kings came separate to their crosses. It made sense from a transport perspective but I’ve little doubt a minuscule amount of glue is going to be required to keep them in place over the longer term. Nevertheless, stunning."

"Absolutely gorgeous chessmen. Fine detailing on all the pieces, the Kings Filial, Queens Crown and the Knight in particular are all stunning. With a king weight of 60gm and pawn weight of 25gm, the pieces have a nice weight that is satisfying to the touch when picking up and putting down pieces on the board. So pleased with these chess pieces I also just purchased the Sheesham and Boxwood set as well. Thoroughly recommended."
