Eagle-eyed customers may have noticed that we have a new dedicated Rechapados Ferrer Chess Sets category on our website. Previously, the majority of the bundles that we sold had been curated in-house by our team, combining chessboards from suppliers such as Italfama, Rechapados Ferrer, and Mastellone Giuseppe with chessmen crafted in workshops based in Italy, India, and Spain.
Rechapados, in recent years, released the Official Queen’s Gambit chess set, combining the dyed poplar and ash root chessboard with boxwood chessmen. To complement the set, they’ve created a lovely custom presentation box, which neatly stores away both the chessboard and pieces in separate compartments, with a magnetic clasp system to hold everything in place.
This chess set was featured in The Queen’s Gambit Netflix show, in which Beth Harmon, the protagonist, was seen using the chess set in her final – and most vital – match, against Russia’s Grandmaster, Vasily Borgov. These sets have been hugely popular since the release of the hit Netflix show, and whilst we have our own curated version, we also sell the Rechapados version for those who benefit from the storage box.
We’ve now expanded our Rechapados Ferrer range to include a 40cm version of each of the existing sets, for those who prefer a smaller footprint, those with less space, or those who are looking for something a little more affordable. We hope to continue gradually developing this range, with more to be added in the future, so check back regularly!
