Atlantic Series Staunton Black & Natural Lacquered 3.75 Inches

The Atlantic series Staunton chess pieces take on a contemporary modern feel with this black and natural lacquered version. All of the pieces are turned from high grade boxwood, the black pieces are finished in a black lacquer that has been polished to a deep shine. In order to preserve a continuity within the set the white pieces are also gloss lacquered with a polished clear coat. These fine chess pieces are double weighted and generously felted on their bases. The gloss lacquering doesn't take away any of the fine detailing of the pieces and the extremes in tone gives excellent contrast on the chess board.
The knight is robust enough to endure many years in the battle field while retaining some of his goofy character and presence. The neat 'tucked in' ears allow for plenty of chess playing without fear of damaging its ornamental appeal. As with all Staunton sets we sell the proportions of the pieces are all in perfect harmony with each other. Setting up the pieces on the board demonstrates just how perfectly sized each one is in relation to its neighbor.
